Or a giant sundae with so many toppings it just can’t hold any more? Woah, right?! That feeling, when something is just absolutely, completely, wonderfully full to the brim, is super exciting!
Think about that feeling for a second. That’s a little bit like what God wants for our lives! Today, we’re wrapping up our ‘Full-to-Bursting Pumpkin Pie’ series, and guess what? We’re going to talk about how God fills our lives with amazing, good things. And not just a little bit, but so much that we can’t help but overflow with kindness and generosity, sharing it with everyone around us! Our memory verse from **1 Timothy 6:18** tells us to ‘Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.’
Now, you might be thinking, ‘How does God fill our lives so much that we overflow?’ Well, let me tell you about a time Jesus showed us exactly what that looks like – a story so incredible, it made a little bit go a LONG way, and then some!

Modern Parable: The Fall Festival Fiasco & The Flourishing Friends
🍂 Lincoln, Henry, and Anthony were buzzing with excitement! Their elementary school’s annual Fall Festival for the local preschool was just around the corner, and their class had been put in charge of the games booth. “We need something awesome!” Lincoln declared, practically bouncing. Henry chimed in, “Yeah, like a beanbag toss! And maybe a ring toss!” Anthony, ever the planner, started sketching ideas on a napkin. They had big dreams, but little actual ‘stuff’ to make it happen. Woah, this was harder than they thought!
😬 As the festival date crept closer, their excitement started to wilt like forgotten autumn leaves. Step-by-Step Guide:
Place the pumpkin pie (or the bowl of filling) on a table, with the tray underneath. Hold up the pie and say, ‘Look at this delicious pumpkin pie! It’s perfectly baked, full of yummy goodness. Think of this pie as your life, and all the wonderful things God puts into it: His love, your family, friends, talents, toys, even your favorite snacks!’ Now, take the serving spoon and scoop a *small* piece of pie onto the small plate. Say, ‘Sometimes we get a little bit of God’s goodness, and that’s great!’ Now, scoop a *much larger* piece, making the pie look like it’s almost too full, perhaps even overflowing a little bit onto the tray. Say, ‘But God doesn’t just give us a little bit! He wants to fill our lives so much, like this pie, that it’s full to bursting! He gives us so much love, so much joy, so many blessings!’ Next, take the whipped cream. ‘And then, imagine we add even *more* goodness, like this whipped cream!’ Start adding whipped cream to the pie, making it stack high, so much that it starts to spill over the edge onto the tray. ‘Woah! It’s overflowing! Just like this pie is overflowing with delicious whipped cream, God wants our lives to be so full of His goodness that it overflows into kindness, generosity, and sharing with others! He wants us to be ‘rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share!’

📖 Scripture Reading: Matthew 14:13-21 (Feeding the Five Thousand)
“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” (1 Timothy 6:18)
One day, Jesus heard some sad news, and He wanted to be alone to pray. So, He went to a quiet place by the Sea of Galilee. But guess what? A huge crowd of people, thousands of them, followed Him! Can you imagine? When Jesus saw them, His heart was filled with compassion, and He healed many who were sick. As evening came, His disciples worried, “Lord, these people are hungry, and there’s no food!”
Jesus looked at them and said, “You give them something to eat.” The disciples scratched their heads. “But all we have are five small loaves of bread and two little fish!” It wasn’t nearly enough for thousands of hungry people. Wait, think about that for a second… five loaves and two fish for maybe five thousand men, plus women and children? That’s impossible, right? But with Jesus, nothing is impossible!
Jesus told everyone to sit down in groups on the grass. He took the tiny amount of food, looked up to heaven, and blessed it. Then, He broke the bread and fish and gave it to His disciples, who gave it to the people. And you know what happened? Everyone ate until they were completely full! And when they gathered the leftovers, there were twelve baskets full! Can you believe it? From a tiny lunch, God not only provided enough, but there was a huge overflow!
🖐️ Sensory Engagement Element: 👉 During the story, when you mention the bread and fish, offer each child a small cracker or goldfish cracker to taste and imagine how little it was compared to the huge crowd, then point to the object lesson pie and remind them of the overflow!
Apologetics & Core Truths: Lessons For Us
Aha! Just like Jesus took those few small loaves and fish and made them overflow to feed thousands, God fills our lives. He gives us His amazing love, His wisdom in the Bible, our families, our friends, our talents, and even our toys and food! But here’s the cool part, kids: He doesn’t just fill us up so we can feel good inside. He fills us so FULL, so wonderfully full, that we can’t help but overflow! We believe God is faithful and good because His Word, the Bible, tells us story after story of His abundant provision. We can trust His Word because it has proven true for thousands of years. The purpose of remembering His works, like the feeding of the five thousand, is to remind us that our God is limitless and that His generosity has no end. And because He is so generous with us, He wants us to be generous with others, sharing His love, kindness, and good deeds. That’s why 1 Timothy 6:18 commands us to ‘be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.’

ABBY: Oh, way more! We had so many extra little craft kits, tiny sticker books, and even a few bouncy balls that we decided to pack them all up. We were just about to ask Mrs. Davison if another class needed anything for their booth.
HENRY: So… you have an *overflow*?

🎯 Active Games
🎁 Overflowing Basket Toss
Divide children into teams. Place a laundry basket or box a few feet away. Give each child a few ‘good deeds’ (beanbags, soft balls, crumpled paper). On ‘go,’ children take turns tossing their ‘good deeds’ into the basket. The goal is to ‘overflow’ the basket. If they get one in, they get to share an idea of how they can share God’s goodness. First team to ‘overflow’ their basket (or get the most items in within a time limit) wins. Emphasize that every ‘good deed’ counts towards overflowing God’s blessings.
🍎 Kindness Chain Race
Provide each team with strips of paper and glue sticks. The leader calls out a prompt (e.g., ‘How can you share a toy?’). Children quickly write or draw their answer on a strip, then link it to the previous strip to form a paper chain. Continue with prompts like ‘How can you help your parents?’ or ‘How can you be kind to a new kid?’ The team with the longest ‘Kindness Chain’ that represents the most shared good deeds wins. This shows how one act of kindness can lead to many more, overflowing!
🧡 Pass the Pumpkin Pie (Balloon)
Children sit in a circle. Give them a pumpkin-colored balloon (or actual mini pumpkin pie if you’re brave!). The leader starts by saying one thing God has given them that they are thankful for, then gently passes the ‘pie’ to the next person. That person shares something they are thankful for and passes it on. Continue until everyone has shared. The goal is to keep the ‘pie’ from dropping, showing how sharing our thankfulness and God’s blessings keeps the goodness flowing and overflowing in the group.
🎨 Themed Craft: 🥧 My Full-to-Bursting Kindness Pie
Supplies Needed:
- Paper plates (one per child)
- Construction paper (orange, brown, white, various bright colors)
- Scissors
- Glue sticks
- Markers or crayons
Instructions:
- Give each child a paper plate. This will be their ‘pie crust’.
- Have them cut out a large orange circle from construction paper to fit inside the plate – this is their ‘pumpkin filling’. Glue it down.
- From brown construction paper, cut thin strips to make a ‘lattice top’ for the pie. Glue these crisscross on the orange circle.
- Now for the fun part: the ‘overflow’! From white construction paper, cut out a wavy ‘dollop’ shape for whipped cream that extends slightly over the edge of the plate. Glue it on.
- On colorful construction paper scraps, have children write or draw small ‘good deeds’ or ‘kindness sprinkles’ (e.g., ‘share a smile’, ‘help a friend’, ‘listen’, ‘give a hug’).
- Glue these ‘sprinkles’ all over their pie, especially making them look like they are overflowing from the whipped cream onto the plate or even off the plate. This visually represents their life being so full of God’s goodness that it overflows into acts of kindness and sharing!
