Description

πŸ“– The Story of Abraham and Isaac for Kids (Genesis 22)

Long ago, God asked Abraham to make a huge sacrifice. God wanted to see if Abraham loved Him more than anything else in the entire worldβ€”even more than his beloved son, Isaac. With a faithful heart, Abraham woke up early in the morning, packed wood for the altar, and traveled for three days toward Mount Moriah with Isaac.

As they walked up the quiet mountain path together, young Isaac looked around carrying the bundle of wood on his shoulders. He turned to his father and asked, “Father, the fire and wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham looked down with gentle eyes and said words that would echo for generations: “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”

Abraham didn’t know exactly how God would do it, but he knew God was good and faithful. When they reached the top and built the stone altar, an angel of the Lord called out from heaven: “Abraham! Abraham! Do not lay a hand on the boy!” Just then, Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a nearby thicket. God had provided! Abraham named that sacred mountain The Lord Will Provide (Jehovah Jireh). Years later, God would send His own Son, Jesus Christ, as the ultimate Lamb who gives His life for all of us.

πŸ’‘ 3 Sunday School Discussion Questions

  • 1. Question for Recall: When Isaac noticed they didn’t have an animal with them, what faithful promise did Abraham say to his son? (He trusted that God would provide the lamb!)
  • 2. Question for Heart Reflection: Have you ever felt worried or scared about what might happen next? How does knowing that God is our Provider (Jehovah Jireh) bring peace to your heart?
  • 3. Question for Real-Life Application: Who is the ultimate Lamb that God provided for you and me? (Jesus! Because Jesus loves us so much, He gave His life so we could be forgiven and close to God forever.)

βœ‚οΈ Hands-On Activity & Coloring Ideas

Bring this coloring page to life with a sensory craft! Glue soft, fluffy white cotton balls onto the lamb’s fleece to give the drawing a 3D touchable texture. Use warm earth tonesβ€”cinnamon browns, rocky greys, and olive greensβ€”for the hills of Mount Moriah. In the sky above Abraham and Isaac, encourage children to write their favorite memory verse: “My God will meet all your needs” (Philippians 4:19).

✝️ Closing Teacher Prayer

“Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for always keeping Your promises and providing for our every need. Just like Abraham trusted You on the mountain, give us brave hearts to trust You even when we cannot see the whole path ahead. Thank You for Jesus, our greatest gift. In His holy name, Amen.”
