Description

📖 Moses and God’s Top 10 Rules for Living (Exodus 20)

After God miraculously delivered the Israelites through the waters of the Red Sea, He led them through the desert to the foot of Mount Sinai. Smoke and lightning wrapped the top of the mountain as the trumpet of God sounded. God called Moses to climb up through the clouds to meet Him, and there God gave Moses the greatest list of guidelines ever written: the Ten Commandments.

God didn’t give us the Ten Commandments to be a party-pooper or to make our lives boring. He gave them to us like guardrails along a mountain road! When you drive along a steep cliff, the guardrails keep you from sliding off the edge. God’s rules show us how to love Him above everything else, how to honor our mothers and fathers, how to speak the truth, and how to treat our friends with respect and kindness.

God Himself wrote these words with His own finger on two stone tablets. While we all make mistakes and fall short of God’s perfect law, Jesus came to fulfill the law and give us clean, forgiven hearts. When the Holy Spirit lives inside us, He gives us the joy and power to live out God’s Top 10 every day!

💡 3 Sunday School Discussion Questions

  • 1. Question for Recall: Where was Moses when God gave him the two stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments? (On top of Mount Sinai!)
  • 2. Question for Heart Reflection: Why do parents give rules like ‘look both ways before crossing the street’? (Because they love you and want to protect you! God’s rules work the exact same way.)
  • 3. Question for Real-Life Application: Which commandment reminds you to honor and obey your parents? How can you show honor to your family this week at home?

✂️ Hands-On Activity & Coloring Ideas

Use a silver or light grey crayon to give the stone tablets an authentic rocky texture. Encourage children to trace over the Roman numerals I through X with a bright yellow or gold colored pencil. On the back of the page, have children write down three specific ways they can honor God and love their neighbors this week.
