✋ Hey everyone! Have you ever been super, duper hungry? Like, stomach growling, ‘I could eat a horse’ kind of hungry? Woah! And have you ever felt really worried about something, like you just didn’t know how things were going to work out? Like, ‘What’s next?!’ kind of worried?

Well, guess what? Our God knows exactly what it feels like to be hungry, and He absolutely knows how we feel when we’re worried. Today, we’re diving into an amazing Bible story that shows us something incredible: whenever you feel tired or worried about what’s next, God knows your exact location and can send care from the most surprising places! Can you believe it?

We’re going to meet a prophet named Elijah and see how God used some very, VERY unexpected messengers to deliver exactly what he needed, right when he needed it most. Get ready for an adventure that will make you say, ‘Only God could do that!’

🍪 Millie loved to bake. Her kitchen was her happy place, filled with the smells of cinnamon and chocolate. One day, her school announced a huge fundraiser: the ‘Great Annual Bake-Off’! The challenge was to bake 50 unique, individually decorated cupcakes for the school fair, and the class that sold the most would win a pizza party. Millie, a natural baker, felt a surge of excitement! She immediately started planning her amazing cupcake creations. This was going to be awesome!

😬 As the deadline loomed, reality hit like a ton of flour. Millie had underestimated how much work 50 unique cupcakes would be. Her friends, Bellamy and Ben, were busy with their soccer finals, and Abby was deep into preparing for the school play. Millie felt totally overwhelmed. She had stayed up late, her kitchen was a disaster, and she was only halfway done! Her shoulders slumped. “I’m never going to finish this,” she mumbled, staring at a mountain of unbaked batter. “What am I going to do?”

✨ Just as she was about to give up, there was a quiet knock at the door. It was Lawson, a quiet kid from her class who lived next door, holding a box of colorful cupcake liners and a piping bag filled with vibrant blue frosting. “Hey Millie,” he said softly. “I saw your lights on late last night and remembered you talking about the bake-off. My grandma taught me some decorating tricks, and I have some extra supplies. Want some help?” Millie’s jaw dropped! She’d barely ever spoken to Lawson, and here he was, like a baking superhero!

🎉 Together, they worked, laughing and frosting. Lawson’s steady hand and creative ideas were exactly what Millie needed. By morning, all 50 cupcakes were beautifully decorated and ready for the fair. Millie realized that even when her usual friends were busy, and she felt completely alone and overwhelmed, help came from the most unexpected place! It was a powerful reminder that sometimes, the help we need most arrives in ways we never, ever expect, showing us that someone is always looking out for us, ready to provide exactly what we need.

Core Point: God provides for us in surprising and unexpected ways, even when things seem impossible.

Supplies Needed:

• A small, empty cardboard box (like a shoebox)
• A piece of cloth or paper to cover the box’s opening
• A small snack (like crackers, fruit snacks, or pretzels)
• A small bottle of water or juice box
• A small, comforting item (like a soft pom-pom or a smooth stone)

Step-by-Step Guide:

Place the snack, water, and comforting item inside the cardboard box, and cover the opening so children can’t see what’s inside. Hold up the box and say, ‘Imagine you’re in a super tough spot. You’re hungry, thirsty, and feeling a little worried, and you have no idea how you’re going to get what you need. Then, out of nowhere, this mystery box appears!’ Shake the box gently. ‘You didn’t ask for it, you didn’t see anyone bringing it, but here it is!’ Slowly uncover the box and pull out the items one by one. ‘Woah! Look at this! A snack when you’re hungry! Water when you’re thirsty! And something soft to remind you that someone cares, even when you feel alone.’ Explain that this box represents God’s unexpected provision. He knows what we need, and sometimes, He sends it in ways we least expect, just like in our Bible story today!

📖 Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 17:1-7 (Elijah and the Ravens)

⛈️ Our story starts with a brave prophet named Elijah. He had just delivered a tough message to King Ahab: there would be no rain for years, only a terrible drought, all because the king and the people had stopped following God. Woah! This was serious. God then told Elijah to hide by a little stream called Kerith Ravine, promising to take care of him there.

🐦 So Elijah went, and guess what? God said, ‘Elijah, I’ve commanded the ravens to feed you there!’ Ravens! Think about that for a second! These aren’t cute little doves; ravens are big, black birds, sometimes known for being scavengers. Yet, every single morning, and every single evening, those ravens arrived with bread and meat, fresh and delicious! And Elijah drank cool, clear water from the stream.

Trusting God, Elijah stayed by the stream, watching the ravens deliver his meals twice a day. He didn’t have to worry about where his next meal was coming from. But eventually, because there was no rain, the stream dried up. Uh oh! What was Elijah going to do now? He had seen God’s incredible provision, but now a new challenge was here. But that’s a story for another time! For now, remember those amazing ravens!

Instructions to teacher: Ask kids to imagine touching a soft black feather and how surprising it would be to get food from a bird. ‘Can you feel the softness? Imagine how amazing it felt for Elijah to receive that unexpected meal!’

🖐️ Sensory Engagement Element: Teacher, as you tell the story of the ravens bringing food, offer each child a small cracker or a sip of water (if feasible) saying, ‘This is just a tiny taste of the unexpected provision God gave Elijah. Feel the cracker in your hand. Imagine how grateful Elijah was!’

Apologetics & Core Truths: Lessons For Us

Hold on a second, why did God use ravens? That’s a super weird delivery service, right? Well, it shows us something incredibly important about God! It wasn’t just *what* God provided (food and water), but *how* He provided it. He used unexpected, ordinary birds to do an extraordinary thing! This teaches us that God is not limited by what seems possible to *us*. How do we know God is faithful? Because He keeps His promises, even when the situation looks impossible, like a drought with no food in sight. Why can we trust His Word? Because throughout the Bible, and especially in stories like Elijah’s, God shows He is powerful and completely reliable. He knows our needs even before we do! The purpose of remembering His works, like the ravens, is to build our faith, knowing that the same God who took care of Elijah will take care of us, too. He’s always at work, even in the most surprising places!
