Full Children’s Sermon Script: 👂 Listen Up: God’s Got Your Back!
Have you ever felt like you knew better than someone older? Maybe you wanted to rush ahead, or do something your way, even when someone warned you?
It’s tough sometimes, isn’t it, to trust someone else’s ‘Stop!’ sign? But what if that ‘Stop!’ was actually God’s way of protecting you from something you couldn’t even see?
Today, we’re going to dive into an amazing, true story from the Bible about a talking donkey and a man who really needed to learn to listen! Get ready for ‘Donkey Talk!’
📖 Bible Story: Numbers 22:21-35
Once upon a time, there was a man named Balaam. He was on a journey, riding his trusty donkey.
Now, Balaam was a bit stubborn, and he thought he knew exactly where he was going. What he didn’t know was that God had sent an angel to stand in his path!
The angel had a sword and was ready to stop Balaam. Balaam couldn’t see the angel, but his donkey could!
The donkey saw the angel and tried to turn off the road. Balaam got so mad, he hit his donkey to make her go forward.
This happened not once, not twice, but three times!
Finally, the Lord gave the donkey the ability to speak! She asked Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Balaam was shocked!
And then, God opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel standing there with a sword. The angel told Balaam that the donkey had saved his life by stopping him!

Ethan, Anthony, Lincoln, and Henry were buzzing with excitement. They were a team, and their big science presentation was due for Ms.
Anya’s class tomorrow! Ethan was super confident about adding a cool animation effect to their slideshow.
“Hold on, Ethan,” Anthony said, looking a bit worried. “Remember Ms.
Anya told us about that specific animation. She said if we don’t use the ‘save as’ feature *before* applying it, it can sometimes crash the whole program!” Ethan just shrugged, “Nah, I’ve got this!
It’ll look awesome, and we’re running out of time.”
He clicked, dragged, and applied the animation. For a moment, it looked fantastic!
Then, the screen flickered, went black, and an error message popped up: ‘Presentation Corrupted!’ Panic! Their whole project, hours of work, seemed lost.
Anthony quickly remembered Ms. Anya’s exact instructions.
“Okay, everyone, don’t touch anything! Ms.
Anya said if this happens, restart the computer, and sometimes it creates a recovery file if you didn’t save over it. It won’t have the animation, but we’ll have our content!” By listening to and remembering that crucial warning, they recovered their work, even if they had to present without the flashy animation.
It definitely saved their grade!
💡 Lessons for Us & Core Truths
Wow! Balaam couldn’t see the danger, but his donkey could, and God used that donkey to protect him.
This story reminds us of an incredible truth: God sees *everything*, even dangers we can’t imagine! When God gives us warnings, through His Word, our parents, teachers, or even that little ‘gut feeling,’ He’s trying to protect us because He loves us.
We can trust His warnings because He is all-knowing and all-good. He has a perfect plan, and sometimes, His ‘Stop!’ is actually His perfect way of saying, ‘I’ve got you!’

DONKEY: (Starts to turn off the path, carefully) Nope, not moving forward. Not an inch. There’s a very pointy reason.
BALAAM: (Angrier) You insolent animal! (Hits donkey a third time) This is the last straw! You’re going to be walking home, my friend!
DONKEY: (Turns head, looks Balaam in the eye, clearly) What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?
BALAAM: (Drops jaw, staff clatters) Y-y-you… you just talked! My donkey just talked! Have I finally lost it?
ANGEL: (Appears suddenly, shining brightly, with sword drawn, standing in front of the donkey, invisible to Balaam until now) Balaam! If not for this donkey, I would have killed you and let her live!
BALAAM: (Falls off donkey in shock) A-an angel?! With a SWORD?! Oh, my goodness! Donkey, you saved me!
DONKEY: (Sighs) Took you long enough to listen. Some people just need a talking animal to get their attention.
NARRATOR: Balaam learned a big lesson that day: God sees what we can’t, and His ‘Stop!’ signs are always for our protection! Now, let’s jump to a school classroom today…
[Scene shifts to ETHAN and ANTHONY at desks. ETHAN is furiously typing on a fake laptop.]
ETHAN: Yes! This animation is going to make our history presentation epic! Ms. Anya will be so impressed!
ANTHONY: (Leaning over, concerned) Uh, Ethan? Remember Ms. Anya said to always ‘save as’ a new version *before* applying those super fancy animations? She said sometimes they can corrupt the original file.

ETHAN: (Panicked) My presentation! It’s gone! All our work! What do we do?!
ANTHONY: (Calmly) Remember Ms. Anya’s warning? She also said if that happened, to restart immediately and check for a recovery file. It might be an older version, but it’s better than nothing!
ETHAN: (Restarting, hopeful) A recovery file? So, her ‘warning’ actually had a solution tied to it?
ANTHONY: Exactly! Just like that talking donkey, Ms. Anya saw a danger you couldn’t, and her warning was meant to protect us! (Screen shows a recovered, simpler presentation). Phew! Saved!
ETHAN: (Relieved) Anthony, you were right! I should have listened. My ‘tech wizardry’ almost cost us everything! Thank you for remembering that ‘stop sign’!
NARRATOR: So, whether it’s a talking donkey, an angel with a sword, or a wise teacher, God uses many ways to tell us to ‘Stop’ and keep us safe. Let’s always listen, look, and trust in His protective love!

👂 Donkey Says (Simon Says)
This is like ‘Simon Says,’ but with a twist! Designate one leader as ‘Donkey Says.’ Children must only obey commands that start with ‘Donkey Says.’ If a command is given without ‘Donkey Says’ (e.g., ‘Jump up!’ instead of ‘Donkey Says, Jump up!’), and a child obeys, they are out. The last child remaining wins. Emphasize the importance of listening carefully to the exact words, just like we need to listen for God’s specific warnings.
🛑 Stop & Go Freeze Dance
Play some upbeat music. Children dance freely. When the music stops, everyone must freeze in place like a ‘Stop’ sign. Anyone who moves while the music is off is out. The game continues until one winner remains. This highlights the concept of ‘stopping’ when a warning is given.
🙈 Blindfolded Guide
Divide children into pairs. One child is blindfolded, and the other is the ‘guide.’ Set up a safe, clear path with no real obstacles, but have the guide give verbal directions (‘Stop,’ ‘Go forward,’ ‘Turn left,’ ‘Turn right’) to help the blindfolded child walk through a short distance. Emphasize that the guide sees what the blindfolded person can’t and is protecting them. Switch roles. Ensure safety at all times.
🎨 Themed Craft: 🎨 My Listening Donkey/Stop Sign
Supplies Needed:
- Construction paper (various colors)
- Safety scissors
- Glue sticks
- Markers or crayons
- Optional: Googly eyes, yarn for donkey tails
Instructions:
- Provide each child with a sheet of construction paper. They can choose to make a donkey or a stop sign.
- For a donkey: Help kids draw and cut out a donkey shape (or provide a template). Encourage them to add big ears to emphasize ‘listening.’ They can draw faces, add googly eyes, and yarn for a tail. Write ‘I will listen!’ on the donkey.
- For a stop sign: Give them red octagonal paper (or have them cut it out) and white paper for the letters. They can write ‘STOP!’ in the middle and ‘Listen to God’s Warnings!’ around the edges. Decorate with markers.
