Well, guess what? Today, weāre going to dive into an incredible true story from the Bible about just that kind of power! Itās a story about a very ordinary person, a regular guy who probably felt pretty small and unimportant, and how God showed up in a totally unexpected way to prove that His power never fizzles out. And get this: He wants to use that same unending power in *your* lives too!

The annual ‘Creative Kids’ Art Show was a huge deal at Northwood Elementary, and this year, the theme was ‘My Awesome World!’ Ember, a super imaginative kid with a bright smile and even brighter ideas, felt a knot in her stomach. Focus on one ear, then one leg, then the trunk. Each small part adds up to something magnificent!’ā A light bulb seemed to click on above Emberās head. She took a deep breath, dipped her brush in vibrant blue paint, and started on a tiny, detailed seashell in the corner of her underwater world. Then a swirling piece of seaweed. Step-by-Step Guide:
Gather the children around. Hold up the small flashlight. ‘Look at this! Itās just a little flashlight, right? Does it look super powerful?’ (Allow responses.) ‘Now, imagine weāre in a really dark room. If I turned this on, would it make a difference?’ Take the dark cloth or blanket and drape it over the glass jar, creating a ‘dark cave’ effect. ‘Letās pretend this jar is super dark inside, like a place where no light can get in!’ Shine the flashlight into the jar. ‘Woah! Even this small light can chase away the darkness in here!’ Now, hereās the cool part: ‘This flashlight keeps giving light because it has batteries inside that give it power. “There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.” (Exodus 3:2)
Our story starts with Moses. He wasnāt a king or a hero yet; he was just a shepherd, quietly taking care of his sheep way out in the desert. Day after day, same routine: sheep, sand, sun. He probably thought his life was going to be pretty normal. But one day, while leading his flock near Mount Horeb, something caught his eye. Something truly extraordinary! A bushā¦ and it was on fire! Whoa! But wait, hereās the really wild part…
Moses stared. He expected it to burn to ashes, right? But it wasn’t! The flames were there, dancing and flickering, but the bush itself wasn’t turning into charcoal. It wasnāt even smoking! ‘This is crazy!’ he must have thought. ‘I have to go check this out!’ As he got closer, a voice called out from the fire, ‘Moses! Moses!’ It was God! God told him to take off his sandals because he was standing on holy ground. Can you believe it? God was talking to him from a burning bush that wasn’t burning up!
God then told Moses He had seen the suffering of His people, the Israelites, in Egypt and He was sending Moses to set them free. Moses, an ordinary shepherd, felt totally overwhelmed. ‘Who am I, Lord?’ he asked. But God said, ‘I will be with you!’ He promised His unending power and presence. He showed Moses that even an ordinary bush, touched by Godās power, could do something impossible. And if God could use a burning bush, He could certainly use Mosesā¦ and He can use you too!
Moses learned that day that Godās power isnāt like a tiny spark that fizzles out; itās an eternal flame, ready to ignite purpose in the most unexpected places and people. And because God is faithful, we can trust His Word that He *will* be with us, just like He promised Moses.

Instruct children to gently rub the leaves between their fingers and smell the fresh, earthy scent. NARRATOR: As Moses led his flock, he wasn’t looking for anything special. Just a new leaning rock. But thenā¦ something GLOWED! Not a phone screen glow, a real, fiery glow!
MOSES: (Stops suddenly, points) Woah! Hold on, sheep! Do you see that?
FLUFFY: (Looks up, startled) Baa? See what? My lunch plans? Because they involve more sandy grass!
WOOLLY: (One eye open) Fireā¦ warmā¦ good for napsā¦
MOSES: Not the fire, Woolly! Look! It’s a bush! And it’s on fire! Butā¦ itās not burning up! Itās justā¦ burning! Thatās impossible! This is definitely NOT normal desert stuff!
FLUFFY: Baa! Maybe it’s a new kind of glowing berry bush? Are they edible, Moses? My tummy is rumbling with curiosity!
MOSES: No, Fluffy! Bushes burn! They donāt justā¦ glow! I have to get a closer look at this ‘fire that didn’t fizzle’!
NARRATOR: Moses slowly, cautiously, walked towards the strange, fiery bush. Blaze, the bush, shimmered with unseen energy.
BLAZE: (In a clear, strong voice, but gentle) Moses! Moses!
MOSES: (Jumps back, startled, almost trips over his crook) Eep! Uh, hello? Is thatā¦ the bush talking? Did I eat too much sandy grass, Fluffy?
FLUFFY: Baa! I told you it builds character! Maybe it’s a very talkative character bush!
BLAZE: Moses! Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
MOSES: (Eyes wide, quickly fumbling with his sandals) Holy ground? Whoa! This isā¦ this is really happening! (Takes off sandals) Um, who is this, if you don’t mind me asking, sirā¦ or madamā¦ bush?
BLAZE: I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.
MOSES: (Covers his face in awe) Oh my goodness! God! Youāre talking to me! From a bush! A non-burning bush! Iā¦ Iām just a shepherd! Iām nobody special!
BLUFFY: Baa! He’s not nobody, he’s OUR shepherd! He knows all the best sandy grass spots!
BLAZE: I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cry. And I have come down to rescue them. And nowā¦ I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people out of Egypt.
MOSES: (Drops his crook in shock) ME?! Youāre sending ME? To Pharaoh?! The mighty ruler of Egypt? Oh no, no, no! I can’t do that! I’m not good at talking! Iā¦ I trip over my words! I trip over my own feet sometimes! Who am I to do such a big, important thing?!
NARRATOR: Moses was feeling pretty small and scared. He focused on all the reasons he couldn’t do it. But God had a powerful answer!
BLAZE: (Gentle but firm) I will be with you, Moses. And this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this very mountain.
MOSES: (Slowly looks up, a glimmer of hope in his eyes) Youā¦ You will be with me? Even though I’m justā¦ me?
BLAZE: My power never runs out, Moses. And I can use anyone, even an ordinary shepherd, to do big things! Just like this bush, which looks ordinary but is touched by my fire, you will be empowered by me!
FLUFFY: Baa! See, Moses? You’re not just an ordinary shepherd! You’re a super-special, God-empowered shepherd! Can we get more sandy grass now?
MOSES: (A small smile starts to form) Iā¦ I guess I am. God is with me! Okay, Pharaoh, here I come! (He picks up his crook, stands taller, and takes a brave step forward.)
NARRATOR: And just like that, an ordinary shepherd found extraordinary courage, because he knew God’s power would never fizzle! And guess what? That same God wants to be with you too! The end!

š„ Burning Bush Freeze Dance!
Play some upbeat music. When the music plays, kids can dance freely. When the music stops, kids must freeze like a bush that’s burning but not burning up! They can pose like a bush with their arms like branches, maybe with fiery facial expressions. Anyone who wiggles is out. The last one ‘unburned’ wins! Emphasize staying perfectly still to represent the unconsumed bush.
š” Power-Up Relay Race!
Divide the children into two teams. Set up a starting line and a ‘Power-Up Station’ at the other end of the room with a small, unlit battery-operated tea light or LED. The first child from each team runs to the Power-Up Station, ‘activates’ their light (by turning it on), and runs back to ‘tag’ the next person, symbolically transferring God’s power. The goal is to see which team can ‘power up’ all their members the fastest. The last runner must return to the start with their light still glowing! (Ensure lights are easy for kids to turn on/off quickly).
šŖ ‘I Am’ Superpower Charades!
Write out various ‘I Am’ statements God makes in the Bible (e.g., ‘I AM the Light of the World,’ ‘I AM the Good Shepherd,’ ‘I AM with you’) and also words related to God’s power (e.g., ‘almighty,’ ‘eternal,’ ‘faithful’). Kids pick a slip of paper and act out the phrase or word without speaking, while the others guess. This helps them connect the attributes of God’s power to their own lives.
šØ Themed Craft: šæ My Un-Burning Bush!
Supplies Needed:
- Brown construction paper or small twigs/sticks
- Red, orange, and yellow tissue paper or cellophane
- Green construction paper
- Glue sticks or liquid glue
- Scissors
Instructions:
1. Provide each child with a sheet of brown construction paper or a few small twigs/sticks. If using paper, have them cut out a ‘bush’ shape. If using twigs, they can arrange them into a bush shape. 2. Give them green construction paper to cut out leaf shapes and glue onto their ‘bush.’ 3. Now for the ‘fire’! Have them tear small pieces of red, orange, and yellow tissue paper or cellophane. 4. Instruct them to crinkle and glue these ‘flames’ onto the green leaves and brown branches of their bush. 5. Emphasize that the paper bush is NOT burning up, just like the real bush Moses saw! ‘This craft reminds us of God’s amazing power that never runs out!’
