Teacher’s Overview & Lesson Focus

🍎 Teacher’s Guide: This lesson explores the exciting story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch, teaching children that God can use them to share His love and message anywhere, with anyone, at any moment. The main takeaway is that when God says ‘Go,’ we don’t slow, but instead, we listen and obey quickly, trusting Him with the results. Kids will learn the importance of listening for God’s promptings and being ready to share their faith.

Hey everyone! Have you ever had one of those days where you’re just chillin’, doing your own thing, and suddenly, BAM! Something totally unexpected happens, and you have to move fast? Like, maybe you’re playing quietly, and your mom shouts, ‘We’re leaving in two minutes!’ Woah! Or you’re reading, and your friend texts, ‘Urgent! Meet me now!’ Those moments make your heart race, right?

Well, today we’re diving into a super exciting Bible story about a guy named Philip who had one of those ‘BAM!’ moments. God told him to go, and guess what? Philip didn’t slow down! He listened, he ran, and he was used by God in an amazing way to share His love. Our main idea today is: **When God says ‘Go,’ we don’t slow! God can use us to share His love anywhere, with anyone, at any moment.**

Get ready to hear about a wild ride, a mysterious chariot, and how listening to God’s whisper can lead to the biggest adventures! We’re talking about Philip, a man who showed us how to be ready for God’s ‘right now’ plans!

Drawing from the scripture passage of Acts 8:26-40 (Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch), this lesson provides a clear, biblically-grounded foundation of trust and understanding for children of all ages.

Modern Parable: ⛳ The Golf Course Courage

The sun beat down on the Willow Creek Junior Golf Tournament, and Lincoln, with his younger brother Leland, was buzzing with excitement! Their friends, Henry and Brennan, were laughing as they walked up to the notoriously tricky 15th hole, nicknamed ‘The Gator’s Mouth’ because of a huge water hazard. Leland, only eight, felt his heart doing flip-flops. His turn was next, and he needed a good shot to keep their team in the lead! Woah, the pressure was on!

Henry, a year older and always full of daring ideas, nudged Leland. ‘Hey, Leland! Just aim right over the water! It’s a shortcut! Coach always says to be bold, right?’ Brennan chimed in, ‘Yeah, just go for it! Don’t be a chicken!’ Leland looked at the water, then at his score card. He knew his coach had taught them to play smart, not just bold, especially on tough holes. He remembered practicing a different, safer shot. But the cheers of his friends made him hesitate. What if he missed? What if they laughed?

Suddenly, Lincoln stepped forward, putting a hand on Leland’s shoulder. ‘Hold on, little bro,’ he said gently. ‘Remember what Coach Miller always tells us about Gator’s Mouth? ‘Play smart, not just strong.’ He said to use the pitching wedge, aim for the big oak on the left, and let it bounce onto the green.’ Lincoln reminded him of all the hours Coach Miller had spent with them, the sacrifice of his time to teach them the right way. Leland took a deep breath. Aha! That made sense!

Trusting Lincoln’s reminder of Coach’s advice, Leland lined up his shot. He ignored Henry and Brennan’s playful jeers and focused. *THWACK!* The ball soared, curving around the oak, landing perfectly on the green. A quiet, smart, obedient shot saved their game! Just like Coach Miller taught them to remember his wisdom, God gives us instructions, and when we listen and obey, even when it’s tough or we’re tempted to do something else, amazing things can happen. Remembering and acting on good advice, especially when it comes from someone who has sacrificed for us, makes all the difference!

Interactive Sunday School Object Lesson: 🚦 Ready, Set, GO!

Children learn best when they can see, hear, and feel a concept. This “The Chariot Chaser: Philip’s Wild Ride to Right Now!” children’s sermon features a powerful, memorable object lesson using simple household items to demonstrate the core spiritual truth: Being ready to move and obey God’s call instantly..

🥚 Object Lesson Outline

Core Point: Being ready to move and obey God’s call instantly.

Supplies Needed:

  • A small ball (like a tennis ball or bouncy ball)
  • A piece of string or yarn (about 3-4 feet long)
  • A small ‘finish line’ marker (like a scarf or a piece of paper)

Step-by-Step Guide:

Set up a start line and a finish line about 10-15 feet apart. Ask for a volunteer. Give the volunteer the ball and the string. Tell them the goal is to get the ball from the start to the finish line, but there’s a catch! The teacher will hold one end of the string, and the child holds the other. The child must move the ball along the ground *only* when the teacher says ‘GO!’ and stop *instantly* when the teacher says ‘STOP!’. The teacher will say ‘GO!’ for short bursts and ‘STOP!’ unexpectedly. If the child doesn’t stop immediately, they have to go back to the start. The goal is to finish the ‘race’ by listening and obeying quickly. After the activity, ask: ‘Was it easy to stop and go instantly? Why is it important to listen carefully and obey quickly when someone gives you instructions?’ This demonstrates how important it is to be ready and listen when God tells us to go!

Bible Story & Sermon Study: 👣 Go Where God Leads!

Hey everyone! Have you ever had one of those days where you’re just chillin’, doing your own thing, and suddenly, BAM! Something totally unexpected happens, and you have to move fast? 📖 Scripture Reading: Acts 8:26-40 (Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch)

“The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet.” (Acts 8:29-30a (NIrV))

One sunny day, Philip, who was busy telling people about Jesus in Samaria, heard a surprising message. Not on his phone, but directly from an angel of the Lord! The angel said, ‘Go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.’ This was a desert road, not exactly a happening place! But Philip didn’t ask questions; he just went! He listened and he obeyed quickly. Can you believe it?

As Philip was walking, he saw a fancy chariot. Inside was an important man, an Ethiopian eunuch, a high official, reading from the prophet Isaiah. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit spoke to Philip, ‘Go to that chariot and stay near it.’ Philip didn’t hesitate! He ran right up to the chariot and heard the man reading. He asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ The man confessed he didn’t and invited Philip to join him. Amazing!

Philip hopped into the chariot, and the eunuch asked him to explain the scripture. Philip, filled with the Spirit, started right there, telling him all about Jesus, using Isaiah’s words! The eunuch believed, and when they saw water, he asked to be baptized. Philip baptized him, and then, poof! The Spirit took Philip away to another town to keep sharing the Good News! The eunuch went on his way rejoicing, a changed man. What a story of quick obedience!

🖐️ Sensory Engagement Element: 👉 During the story, let the children feel a small, smooth river stone or a piece of sand. Explain that Philip walked on dusty roads and that water was precious in the desert. This helps them imagine the setting and connect with the eunuch’s eagerness to be baptized when he saw water.

Apologetics & Core Truths: Lessons For Us

This incredible story shows us so many important things about God! First, God is always working, even in unexpected places like a desert road! He sees everyone, no matter how far away they are. Second, God uses ordinary people like Philip to do extraordinary things. Philip wasn’t a superhero; he was just willing to listen and obey. This teaches us *why* we believe God is faithful – because He actively pursues people, and He uses us as His hands and feet! We can trust His Word because He orchestrates events, even sending angels and His Spirit, to bring people to truth. The purpose of remembering His works, like how He guided Philip, is to build our confidence that He will guide us too! We are called to be ready, just like Philip, to share the good news of Jesus whenever and wherever God prompts us.

It brings the theme of “Obeying God’s Call: Sharing His Love Anywhere, Anytime” to life through humor, relatable dialogue, and engaging storytelling.

🎭 Skit Blueprint & Script Excerpt

Characters:

  • MIA (age 9, energetic, a bit distracted)
  • SAM (age 10, Mia’s older brother, thoughtful)
  • MR. GRUMBLES (The mailman, a bit gruff but kind inside)
  • VOICE OF SPIRIT (Offstage, calm and clear)

[Setting: A living room. SAM is trying to read a comic book. MIA is trying to build a fort out of sofa cushions, making lots of noise.]

MIA: (Grunting) Almost got it! Just one more cushion and this fortress will be impenetrable! Woah!

SAM: (Lowering comic book, exasperated) Mia, can you *please* just be quiet for five minutes? I’m trying to read ‘Captain Comet’s Cosmic Quest’!

MIA: But Sam, my fort! It’s super important! It’s for… protecting my cereal! (She holds up a bright, empty cereal box.) This box needs a safe home!

VOICE OF SPIRIT: (Calmly, but clear) Mia, look to the window.

MIA: (Freezes, cocks her head) Huh? Did you hear that, Sam? Sounds like… a talking cereal box?

SAM: (Rolls eyes) No, that was probably just Mom calling you. Or maybe your imagination. Now, about Captain Comet…

VOICE OF SPIRIT: (A bit louder) Mia, go to the window. The mailman needs your help.

MIA: (Her eyes widen) Mailman? But… I’m building! And he’s usually so fast! Wait, think about that for a second… a talking voice telling me to go? That sounds kind of familiar!

SAM: What are you muttering about now?

MIA: (Jumping up) I think… I think I just got a ‘Go!’ signal! Like Philip! He didn’t slow down! I gotta go!

SAM: (Confused) Go where? To the kitchen for more cereal?

MIA: No! To the window! (She races to the window, peering out.) Oh! It’s Mr. Grumbles! He’s trying to lift that HUGE package! It looks like a giant dog kennel! Can you believe it?

VOICE OF SPIRIT: Mia, go to Mr. Grumbles and offer to help.

MIA: (Looks back at Sam, a determined look on her face) Okay, this is definitely a ‘Go!’ moment! He looks like he’s about to drop it!

SAM: (Sighs, puts down comic) You’re really going? What about your cereal fort?

MIA: The cereal box can wait! This is a real, live ‘right now’ moment! (She bolts out the door, yelling) MR. GRUMBLES! I CAN HELP!

[Scene changes to outside. MR. GRUMBLES is struggling with an enormous, oddly shaped package, almost tipping over.]

MR. GRUMBLES: (Straining) Ugh… this isn’t… a… dog… kennel… it’s a… hippopotamus… kennel! (He nearly drops it.)

MIA: (Running up) Mr. Grumbles! Are you okay? I can help! I’m pretty strong!

MR. GRUMBLES: (Surprised) Mia? Oh, uh, well, bless your heart, little one. This thing’s heavier than my mailbag on Christmas Eve! Are you sure?

MIA: Absolutely! My brother Lincoln always tells my other brother Leland that even small help can make a big difference, especially if you remember the right way to lift! Let’s get on opposite sides!

MR. GRUMBLES: Well, alright then. One, two, THREE!

[They both lift, and with Mia’s extra effort, they manage to get the package onto the porch. SAM comes out, looking impressed.]

SAM: Woah! You actually did it, Mia!

MIA: (Beaming) See? When God says ‘Go!’, you don’t slow! I felt that nudge, just like Philip! It’s like I knew it was the right thing to do, even though I was busy!

MR. GRUMBLES: (Wipes his brow) Thank you, Mia. You saved my back, and probably this… whatever it is. That was mighty kind of you. You know, most kids just watch from their windows these days. Hold on…

[Mr. Grumbles reaches into his mailbag and pulls out a small, colorful sticker. He hands it to Mia.]

MR. GRUMBLES: For being such a super helper. You’ve got a good heart, kiddo.

MIA: (Grinning, holding the sticker) Wow! Thank you, Mr. Grumbles! See, Sam? It pays to listen to that ‘Go!’ voice! It’s not always a talking cereal box, but it’s always worth it!

SAM: (Shaking his head, a small smile forming) Alright, alright. Maybe Captain Comet could learn a thing or two from you, Mia. Maybe I should listen for my own ‘Go!’ signal next time.

MIA: Definitely! Because God can use us to share His love anywhere, with anyone, at any moment! Even with a mailman and a hippopotamus kennel! Come on, let’s finish that fort, it’s a bit small for a hippo!

Themed Sunday School Games & Craft Template

Keep the momentum going with active learning games and a themed craft that kids can take home to show their families!

🎯 Active Games

🏃 Chariot Race Relay

Divide the kids into two teams. Each team lines up. Give the first person in line a ‘scroll’ (a rolled-up piece of paper or paper towel tube). On ‘Go!’, the first person races to a designated ‘chariot’ (a chair or marked spot), ‘reads’ their scroll, then races back to tag the next person. The ‘scroll’ represents God’s Word. The first team to have everyone ‘read’ their scroll wins. Emphasize running quickly and ‘reading’ (even just pretending) to connect to Philip’s speedy obedience and sharing the Word.

👂 Go, Stop, Listen!

This is a twist on ‘Red Light, Green Light.’ One child is ‘The Spirit’ at the front, facing away from the group. The other children are ‘Philips’ at the back. When ‘The Spirit’ says ‘Go!’, the Philips walk or run towards them. But ‘The Spirit’ can also say ‘Stop!’ or, more importantly, ‘Listen!’ When ‘The Spirit’ says ‘Listen!’, everyone freezes and ‘The Spirit’ gives a simple command (e.g., ‘Turn around three times,’ ‘Touch your nose’). The Philips must obey the command before they can move again when ‘Go!’ is called. The first ‘Philip’ to tag ‘The Spirit’ becomes the new ‘Spirit’. This game highlights listening and quick obedience.

✉️ Mystery Message Mission

Hide several pre-written ‘messages’ (short Bible verses or kind encouraging words) around the room. Divide kids into small teams. Give each team a ‘mission card’ with clues (e.g., ‘Look near something green,’ ‘Check under the table’). When a team finds a message, they must bring it back to a central ‘headquarters’ (the teacher) and ‘report’ what it says. The first team to find and report all their messages wins. This symbolizes going out on a mission to share God’s Word, just like Philip.

🎨 Themed Craft: 🗣️ My ‘Go’ Disc

Supplies Needed:

  • Paper plates or cardstock circles
  • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
  • Yarn or string (about 12 inches per child)
  • Hole punch

Instructions:

Give each child a paper plate or cardstock circle. Instruct them to decorate one side with things they can do to ‘Go’ for God – like drawing a picture of themselves helping a friend, inviting someone to church, or sharing a kind word. On the other side, have them write ‘When God says GO, I don’t SLOW!’ or ‘I’m ready to GO for God!’ Punch a hole at the top of the plate and thread a piece of yarn through it to make a hanger. They can hang these ‘Go Discs’ at home as a reminder to be ready to obey God’s promptings and share His love.

Closing Application & Classroom Prayers

So, remember Philip? He listened, he ran, and he saw God work in an amazing way. God has big plans for each of you too! He might not send an angel to tell you to go to a chariot, but He might give you a nudge to invite a friend to church, share a kind word with someone who’s sad, or help out without being asked. When you feel that gentle nudge, that ‘Go!’ from God, don’t slow down! Be ready, be brave, and trust that God will use you to spread His incredible love. You are His chariot chaser, ready for His ‘right now’ moment!

🙏 Closing Classroom Prayer

Dear God, thank You for the example of Philip. Thank You for Your faithfulness in pursuing people and using ordinary people like us. Help us to be quick to listen and quick to obey when You tell us to ‘Go.’ Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we can share Your love and truth with anyone, anywhere, at any moment. Amen.

💖 Invitation to Salvation (Simple Prayer for Kids)

Dear Jesus, I know I’m a sinner, and I need a Savior. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I ask You to forgive me and come into my heart. I want to follow You and live for You every day. Thank You for saving me. Amen.
