When the world was filled with wickedness and had turned away from God, one righteous man walked faithfully with the Lord: Noah. God gave Noah an extraordinary assignment—to build an enormous wooden ark out of gopher wood, coat it inside and out with pitch, and welcome pairs of every living creature on earth.

Noah trusted God completely, even when building a massive ark far from the sea must have seemed impossible to everyone watching. Day after day, hammer stroke after hammer stroke, Noah obeyed the Lord’s blueprint. When the great rains fell and the deep fountains burst forth, God safely shut Noah, his family, and all the animals inside the Ark.

For forty days and nights the waters rose, but God remembered Noah! In His perfect time, the waters receded, the Ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat, and a gentle dove flew back carrying a fresh green olive leaf. When Noah and the animals stepped out onto dry ground, God arched a breathtaking rainbow across the sky as an everlasting covenant promise: “Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” (Genesis 9:13–15).
