Alright, gather ’round, friends! Imagine this: it’s the biggest Field Day event of the year at Greenview Elementary. Our crew, Ellison, Watson, Lawson, and Gideon, along with Millie, Hazel, and Kyla, were all part of the ‘Greenview Geckos’ team. They were usually pretty good, especially at the obstacle course, but this year was different. The ‘Maplewood Mighty Hawks’ had a new super-fast runner, and their team was boasting like crazy! Ellison, usually so confident, started to feel a little wobbly. “There’s no way we can beat them,” he whispered to Watson, looking at the Mighty Hawks doing fancy stretches. “They look unbeatable!”

Supplies Needed:

• A small, empty plastic water bottle
• A large, heavy book (like a dictionary or big textbook)
• A small, inflatable balloon

Step-by-Step Guide:

Hold up the empty water bottle and ask, ‘What does this represent? Maybe a big problem? A tough challenge? Or even something powerful, like a strong Pharaoh?’ Then, place the heavy book on top of the empty bottle. ‘Can this bottle hold up this big, heavy book?’ (It probably can, but it looks like it’s struggling). Now, pick up the balloon. ‘What about this balloon? Does it look powerful?’ (No, it looks light and flimsy). Explain that sometimes challenges seem too big, or we feel too small. Now, take the balloon and slowly inflate it underneath the heavy book. Watch as the balloon, which seems so small and weak, slowly, but surely, starts to lift the heavy book off the table! Woah! Ask, ‘Did you see that? The tiny balloon, full of air, lifted the heavy book! It looked impossible!’ Explain that just like that balloon, which seems insignificant but holds an invisible force (air) that can lift something heavy, God’s power is often invisible but can overcome ANYTHING. He’s infinitely more powerful than the air in this balloon! Nothing can stop God when He decides to act!

Our story starts way back in ancient Egypt, where God’s people, the Israelites, were slaves, working incredibly hard for a very stubborn king named Pharaoh. God heard their cries and told a brave man named Moses to go to Pharaoh and demand, ‘Let my people go!’ But Pharaoh, oh boy, he had a big ego! He just laughed and said, ‘Who is the Lord that I should obey Him? No way!’ He thought *he* was the most powerful person around.

But God was about to show Pharaoh, and everyone else, who the *real* boss was! God sent a series of ten incredible, jaw-dropping plagues upon Egypt. First, all the water turned to blood! Then came frogs everywhere, followed by gnats and flies that tormented everyone. Wait, think about that for a second! Imagine frogs jumping on your food! Pharaoh’s magicians tried to copy some of these, but they couldn’t even make gnats! Aha! God’s power was already on a different level!

The plagues kept coming: sick animals, painful boils, terrifying hail and fire, swarms of locusts eating everything green, and then, a darkness so thick you could *feel* it for three whole days! Can you imagine? Total darkness! Each plague showed God’s perfect control over everything, proving that He was stronger than Pharaoh, stronger than all of Egypt’s supposed gods, and stronger than any problem. Finally, after the terrible tenth plague, Pharaoh was so broken he practically pushed the Israelites out, recognizing that indeed, no one is stronger than our God!

God’s power is incredible!’

Supplies Needed:

• Cardstock or sturdy paper (light blue or tan works well)
• Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
• Glitter glue or regular glue and loose glitter
• Craft sticks (popsicle sticks)
• Pictures or symbols representing the plagues (e.g., frog sticker, drops of red paint, dark circle)
• Optional: yarn or string for hanging

Instructions:

1. Give each child a piece of cardstock. Tell them they’re going to create a ‘Power Plaque’ to remember God’s awesome strength.
2. On their paper, have them draw or use stickers to illustrate 2-3 of the plagues they learned about (e.g., a frog, a dark sky, a drop of red water).
3. Below their drawings, have them write our memory verse: ‘No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.’ (Jeremiah 10:6).
4. They can decorate the plaque with glitter glue around the edges or on their drawings to make it ‘shine’ with God’s power.
